Immersive 3D projection did not reach the home or workplace. Stereoscopic 3D TV peaked at 23% of TV sales dollars in 2012, fell to 8% in 2016, and LG and Sony dropped it in 2017. Holographic and room-scale projection stayed in venues and demos. VR headsets are head-mounted displays, not projections. Provisional, window closes 2030.
Test: Share of households with immersive 3D projection systems: well below 5% in 2025.
Grader B: miss
Immersive 3D imagery without headsets did not take off. The mass-market 3D display, 3D TV, was dropped: production ended in 2016 and Sony and LG, the last makers, ended 3D support in January 2017. Holographic and projection-based immersive rooms remain venue and lab installations. Provisional, window closes 2030.
Test: 20% of target users/households: no measurable household share of immersive 3D projection systems; 3D TV abandoned by 2017.
