The high quality of computer screens, and the facilities of computer-assisted visual rendering software, have made the computer screen a medium of choice for visual art.
Grader A: hit
By 2009 the computer screen was a main medium for visual work. Digital cameras outsold film cameras from 2003, photo editing and graphic design were done on screens, and digital illustration was standard practice. Fine art in galleries stayed mostly physical, but for visual art as a whole the screen was a medium of choice.
Test: Share of new cameras that were digital: majority from 2003 (over 50% of new units).
Grader B: hit
By 2009 the computer screen was a main medium for making and viewing visual art. Commercial illustration, graphic design, animation and photography had moved to digital tools (Photoshop, tablets, digital cameras). Online art communities were large: DeviantArt had about 36 million visitors a year in 2008. Traditional fine art kept physical media, but 'a medium of choice' does not need exclusivity.
Test: Test: 20% of the relevant industry (visual art and design) routinely uses the screen as its working and display medium. Commercial design, illustration and photography were far above 20% digital by 2009. DeviantArt: about 36M annual visitors (2008).
