Supply Chain Traceability Platforms

Digital systems tracking garments from fiber to retail using RFID, QR codes, and blockchain
Back to FabricView interactive version

Supply chain traceability platforms integrate RFID tags, QR codes, and blockchain technology to create immutable records tracking garments from raw material origin through manufacturing, distribution, and retail. These systems capture and verify data about fiber sources, dye chemistry, labor conditions, carbon footprint, and transportation, creating comprehensive digital product passports that travel with physical items.

This innovation addresses growing regulatory requirements and consumer demand for transparency in fashion supply chains. The EU's Digital Product Passport regulation, set to take effect in 2026, will mandate traceability for textiles, forcing brands to implement these systems. Beyond compliance, traceability platforms enable brands to prove ESG commitments, identify supply chain risks, and respond to consumer inquiries about product origins. Leading platforms include Eon, TextileGenesis, and Provenance, which are being adopted by brands ranging from H&M to luxury houses.

The technology is becoming a competitive differentiator as consumers increasingly make purchasing decisions based on sustainability and ethical considerations. By providing verifiable proof of responsible sourcing and manufacturing, traceability platforms enable brands to command premium pricing while building trust with conscious consumers and meeting evolving regulatory requirements.
