Offshore AI Software Development

Vietnam's IT outsourcing industry ($698M in 2025) is pivoting from generic coding to AI/ML development, with developers costing 60-80% less than Silicon Valley equivalents.

Vietnam — Vietnam's software outsourcing industry is rapidly specializing in AI and machine learning development. Companies like FPT, CMC, and newer firms employ growing communities of data scientists and AI specialists. Vietnamese developers cost 60-80% less than Silicon Valley equivalents while increasingly working on frontier AI applications rather than basic coding.

The transition from generic outsourcing to AI specialization reflects Vietnam's massive STEM education investment: 500,000+ STEM graduates annually, many trained in AI/ML curricula updated with industry partnerships. FPT's AI subsidiary has developed Vietnamese-language LLMs and computer vision systems for manufacturing quality control.

Strategically, Vietnam is positioning for the AI labor arbitrage — as AI development costs become the primary bottleneck for global adoption, Vietnam's combination of technical talent and cost competitiveness could make it the 'India of AI' for Southeast Asia. The risk is that AI coding tools (Copilot, Cursor) erode the cost advantage of human developers faster than Vietnamese firms can move up the value chain.
