Quantum Computing & Cryptography Research

Singapore's Centre for Quantum Technologies at NUS, backed by S$300M national investment, contributed to JPMorganChase's quantum random number generation breakthrough.

Singapore — The Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT) at NUS is Southeast Asia's flagship quantum research institution, contributing to the March 2025 Nature publication demonstrating quantum-certified random number generation with JPMorganChase. Singapore's National Quantum Office coordinates a S$300 million investment in quantum processors, algorithms, and applications.

Singapore's quantum strategy focuses on applications rather than hardware: quantum-safe cryptography for its financial sector, quantum optimization for logistics (critical for a port city handling 37 million containers annually), and quantum chemistry for drug discovery via the A*STAR-Quantinuum partnership.

The strategic significance is future-proofing Singapore's financial infrastructure. As a global wealth management hub, Singapore must be among the first to deploy quantum-resistant encryption. The country's compact scale makes it an ideal testbed for quantum key distribution networks, potentially creating exportable security standards for ASEAN's financial integration.
