Integrated Counter-UAS Detection and Defeat Systems

Israel's counter-drone technology combines radar, RF detection, EO tracking, and kinetic/electronic defeat methods, deployed operationally against drone threats from Gaza, Lebanon, and Iran.

As both a leading drone producer and a primary target of adversary drone attacks, Israel has developed comprehensive counter-UAS (C-UAS) systems that detect, track, classify, and neutralize hostile drones. Rafael's Drone Dome combines radar, RF detection, electro-optical sensors, and directed energy (laser) defeat mechanisms. Elbit's ReDrone provides RF-based detection and cyber takeover capabilities. These systems have been refined through operational use against drones launched by Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iranian proxies.

The counter-drone challenge is acute in Israel's threat environment: cheap commercial drones can be weaponized to carry explosives, conduct surveillance, or overwhelm air defenses through sheer numbers. Israeli C-UAS solutions address this asymmetry through multi-layered approaches that combine soft-kill (jamming, cyber) and hard-kill (laser, interceptor) methods, with AI-based threat classification to prioritize engagement.

Strategically, counter-drone technology is one of the fastest-growing defense market segments globally, driven by the proliferation of cheap drones in conflicts from Ukraine to the Middle East. Israel's dual advantage — being both a leading drone manufacturer and a frontline defender against drone threats — gives it unmatched insight into both the attack and defense sides of the equation. Export demand is surging from nations facing similar asymmetric drone threats.
