Digital Earth Twin Technology

Satellite imagery processing that builds digital twins of any location on Earth in minutes — enabling operation simulation before physical deployment

Geography: Emea · Europe · Europe

Blackshark.ai (Austria, €31.8M raised) processes satellite imagery to create detailed digital twins of entire regions in minutes. The technology automatically identifies and classifies buildings, vegetation, infrastructure, and terrain from satellite data, generating 3D models accurate enough for operational planning.

The defense application is immediate: military planners can simulate operations with perfect terrain awareness before deployment. But civilian applications are equally significant — urban planning, disaster response, insurance risk assessment, and telecommunications network planning all benefit from rapid, accurate 3D Earth models.

The technology builds on Europe's Copernicus open data ecosystem: Blackshark.ai processes freely available Sentinel satellite imagery, adding AI-driven classification and 3D reconstruction. This demonstrates the downstream value creation that the EU's open-data space policy was designed to enable — public investment in satellite infrastructure creating commercial opportunities for European companies.
