Scalar Waves

Scalar waves (longitudinal electromagnetic waves) are proposed to differ from conventional transverse EM radiation, carrying information through space without frequency or wavelength limitations. Claims include superluminal communication, consciousness interfacing, and penetration of any shielding.
Historical Claims and Proponents
Tesla allegedly demonstrated longitudinal transmission in his Colorado Springs experiments. Modern advocates like Konstantin Meyl and Thomas Bearden claim scalar waves explain biological communication, DNA interaction, mind-matter coupling, and enable revolutionary applications. Proposed uses include: consciousness-to-consciousness information transfer; submarine and earth-penetrating communication without attenuation; telepathy-like biological interfacing; healing and consciousness alteration devices; and secure undetectable data transfer immune to interception.
Scientific Assessment
Physics recognizes only transverse electromagnetic waves in vacuum per Maxwell's equations. 'Scalar' waves as described are compression waves in conducting media, not propagating fields. Most 'scalar wave' devices measure conventional EM artifacts or near-field effects. Claims of consciousness coupling, FTL transmission, and shield penetration lack mechanistic explanation and empirical demonstration. Any tested 'scalar communication' resolves to conventional EM transmission or fraud. The concept appeals through promise of perfect security, unlimited range, and biological compatibility—attractive fantasies without physical basis, existing primarily in fringe literature.
