- Impact: 4/5
- Investment: 5/5
Hailo Technologies has developed purpose-built AI inference processors optimized for edge deployment — devices that need to run deep learning models locally without cloud connectivity. The Hailo-8 and Hailo-10 AI accelerators deliver up to 26 TOPS (tera operations per second) at power consumption under 3 watts, enabling AI capabilities in devices ranging from security cameras and industrial robots to autonomous vehicles and drones. Raspberry Pi selected Hailo as its AI accelerator partner.

Edge AI is a strategically critical market because it addresses scenarios where cloud-based AI is impractical: real-time autonomous driving decisions, military applications in contested RF environments, industrial quality control, and privacy-sensitive applications. Hailo's architecture uses a unique dataflow approach that achieves performance/watt ratios competitive with much larger companies' solutions.

Hailo became a unicorn ($1B+ valuation) after raising $136M, with investors including Poalim Equity. The company's global partner ecosystem spans the U.S., Germany, China, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan. Israel's broader semiconductor design ecosystem — home to Intel's largest development center outside the U.S., and development sites for Nvidia (adding 8,000 staff), Qualcomm, Apple, and others — makes it one of the world's densest chip design clusters despite having no fabrication facilities.
