Saudi Esports & Gaming Industry

Saudi Arabia has invested over $38B in gaming through PIF's Savvy Gaming Group, acquiring ESL/FACEIT and taking major stakes in Nintendo, Activision, and EA to build a global gaming hub.

Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, through Savvy Gaming Group, has invested over $38 billion in the global gaming industry, including acquiring ESL Gaming and FACEIT (the world's largest esports platforms), and taking significant stakes in Nintendo, Activision Blizzard, and Electronic Arts. The Kingdom is building purpose-built esports arenas and hosting international gaming tournaments as part of Vision 2030's entertainment sector development.

With 67% of Saudi Arabia's population under 35, gaming and esports represent a culturally relevant diversification opportunity. The domestic market is substantial (over 23 million gamers), while the international esports acquisitions give Saudi Arabia control over competitive gaming infrastructure used by hundreds of millions of players worldwide.

The gaming investment strategy serves multiple purposes: creating entertainment options for a young population, building a creative technology sector (game development studios are being established), and generating soft power through control of global esports platforms. The technology infrastructure required for competitive gaming — low-latency networking, high-performance computing, streaming platforms — also supports broader digital economy goals.
