ZSL (Zero-Shot Learning)

Zero-Shot Learning represents a significant leap towards creating more general and adaptable AI systems, challenging the traditional paradigm where machine learning models require extensive labeled datasets to learn a task. In ZSL, the model leverages semantic relationships between known and unknown categories, often using attributes or descriptions that encapsulate the essence of each category. The concept of Zero-Shot Learning began to gain prominence in the 2000s, with a notable increase in interest and research publications in the late 2010s. While it's challenging to credit the development of ZSL to specific individuals due to its collaborative and iterative nature across many subfields of AI, institutions and researchers across computer vision, natural language processing, and cognitive science have significantly contributed to its evolution. Research groups from universities and tech companies around the world have published foundational papers and developed early models demonstrating the potential of Zero-Shot Learning.
