The APR-1400 (Advanced Power Reactor 1400) is a 1,400 MWe pressurized water reactor designed by Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP). Four units are operational at the UAE's Barakah plant, making it the first nuclear power plant in the Arab world. In June 2025, the Czech Republic selected KHNP's APR-1400 over France's EDF for a new reactor at Dukovany, a deal worth approximately $17B including fuel and services.

The APR-1400's export success rests on Korea's ability to deliver on time and on budget — something the Western nuclear industry has struggled with catastrophically (Olkiluoto 3, Vogtle 3&4). Barakah's four units were built in roughly a decade, compared to 15-20 year delays for comparable Western projects. Korea's construction efficiency comes from standardized design, experienced workforce, and shipyard-style project management.

With nuclear energy experiencing a global renaissance driven by AI data center power demands and decarbonization targets, Korea's proven export reactor positions it alongside Russia's Rosatom and China's CGN as one of the only countries that can actually deliver new nuclear capacity. Poland, Saudi Arabia, and Kenya are in various stages of discussions with KHNP.
